About The Teacher
The original name of the instructor is Shih Cheng. She was born in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. She is revered as “Shih Mom”. She studied insight (Vipassana) meditation from Ven. Sujiva, and developed a profound comprehension of his teaching. Later on, she visited Sri Lanka, Thailand, Burma, and other places to study concentration (Samadhi) & insight (Vipassana) Meditation. Since 1997, Shih Mom has been invited to instruct meditation in Taiwan. The way she instructs is natural yet concrete with personalized teaching plan. She is also known for her humor during Dharma lectures. In January of 2008, Shih Mom established Mount
Kinabalu Meditation Centre in Sabah Malaysia. Currently, she mainly teaches in Taiwan, United States and Malaysia.
The meditation technique taught by Shih Mom is insight meditation which is Vipassana in Pali, the original written language of Buddhism. Through insight meditating on the four foundations of mindfulness (Satipattana)-- body, feelings, consciousness, and Dharma, one can understand the law of impermanence, suffering, emptiness and non-self which will lead to nirvana. This is often referred as the path to “Enlightenment and Deliverance”.
